Vaccines require high uptake to quell transmission.
Even the measles vaccine requires high uptake to stop transmission. This has always been the case. Vaccine effectiveness for transmission has always depended upon high uptake. That’s just how it works. That’s why it’s important to have a vaccine campaign.

The Sloth Virus: A New Frontier in Virology
We're thrilled to introduce the Sloth Virus, a novel discovery in virology. Found in sloths, this virus features an unusually slow replication cycle, reflecting its host's lethargic nature.
In the ever-evolving world of virology, new discoveries often emerge, sometimes from the most unexpected sources. These interesting discoveries include the so-called “sloth virus,” a pathogen that has attracted attention for its unique characteristics and potential implications. Named after its host, the sloth, the virus represents a fascinating intersection of wildlife biology, ecology, and…

COVID patients breathe large amounts of virus early on - Northwestern Now
It is the first longitudinal, direct measure of the number of SARS-CoV-2 viral copies exhaled per minute over the course of the infection — from the first sign of symptoms until 20 days after. On day eight, exhaled levels of virus drop steeply, down to near the limit of detection — an average of two copies exhaled per minute. Northwestern investigators tested breath samples — collected multiple times daily from 44 individuals — over the entire course of infection to determine when a person is most infectious.
...
“The vast majority of research on viral loads over the course of a COVID-19 infection has been based on nasal or oral swabs, which measure virus in the nose or throat,” said lead study author Gregory Lane, senior research project manager in Zelano’s lab. “However, SARS-CoV-2 is spread through breath, and virus on the breath may not match virus in the nose. The dynamics of viral shedding on breath over the course of infection are poorly understood, despite the fact that this is how the virus spreads.”

This is just kvetching into the void but I periodically see posts on this here internet and website essentially trying to police the terms people use for their own art, ie "you can't call something a doodle if it looks finished (to me)" or "stop doing sketchbook flips that are finished pieces, it's supposed to be doodles and wips in a sketchbook!" and usually there's a reason given about these things setting an unrealistic standard either for other artists, or non-artists, and these irritate the piss out of me every time I fear.
Your 'finished piece' might BE someone's low effort doodle, that's just life sometimes! This is fine! It need not reflect on you!
Similarly, the sketchbook is the medium. Whether it's showcase of completed works or practice sketches is irrelevant. They are showing their sketchbook.
Much of this moaning is indirectly shot at people who are full-time artists, if not professionals, posting online. Are you under the impression their grasp of art terminology is just flat out wrong? Or is it just broader than you would like?
I can't take the fear of unrealistic expectations seriously, sorry. People are very ignorant, yes, but the cure is never a dumbing down of the topic, nor trying in vain to universalize it.
This all kind of wraps into how social media turns people sharing their art into this cut throat arms race, how divorced people become from means of actually learning their craft in that sort of environment, and the, to be blunt, sour grapes that grow from all of this. Sincerely, I just encourage people to worry less about other artists minding their business and focus more on personal growth. Maybe let yourself get inspired! And then we'll both win, because I will see less incessant whining out in the wild!

If I’m being real, I know we’ve already lost the l war with covid because (not only are most non-disabled individuals refusing to mask at this point), but a large faction of people (1) don’t believe covid exists and/or (2) don’t believe viruses exist. If we can’t even agree on the basic scientific theories that guide public health… we are doomed. Point-blank and period.

anyway our CNS & brains are pretty complex, like we've barely figured out getting people with partial spinal cord damage back driving their own bodies + when we do it's still a roll of the dice & the processes are not all well understood... encephalitis can caused locked-in-ness like with sleeping sicknesses, akinetic mutism, etc where the body itself is not physically incapable of movement & action, but nothing is out there that jumps in and takes over from a driver who's paralyzed or asleep at the wheel... that's not actually a thing, it's fun speculative fiction but not representative of reality— so really, no worries lol

my wife’s scientific field (while super useful & important) is niche enough & high-skilled enough that even other people in related fields aren’t 100% sure what her work involves, so i cannot IMAGINE the havoc she could wreak on a supervillain if the fuckin idiots rolled up and gave her free access to a lab and computer
in movies, when a scientist is held hostage and is forced to make a bomb or virus, like my guy, those villains don’t know shit about science. just make a gumball machine, my dude

Last week I went to the doctor for a pre-scheduled appointment (trying to see if putting my luxated and sub luxated ribs and shoulders back every couple weeks will train them to stay in place) and as I was going thru recent symptoms my doctor pointed out that a bunch of things I thought were random and unrelated could've in fact been a viral infection.
And it's just been rattling around my brain since then. Tiny little capsules with almost nothing but simple genetic information in them got into my body and as a side effect of making more tiny capsules, they made me barf for exactly three hours, then gave me sialoadenitis, then made my left elbow swell up and hurt. Sure. Ok. How does that help you, little capsules. Why just the left elbow, or just the sublingual salivary gland. What are you guys doing in there. I'm not mad I just wanna know
